Choosing your Avia device connection type

PoE, Ethernet + DC, or DC + Wi-Fi: which setup fits your store, and why we recommend PoE.

Your Avia device needs power and a network connection. There are three supported setups. PoE is the recommended option because a single cable does everything and no mobile app is needed.

How to choose

  • PoE: the cleanest install. One Ethernet cable carries both power and data. Requires a PoE-enabled switch or a PoE injector (a standard switch does not always provide PoE power).

  • Ethernet + DC: when you have a network port near the entrance but no PoE. Wired data, wall-outlet power.

  • DC + Wi-Fi: when running any cable to the entrance isn't practical. 2.4 GHz only (5 GHz is not supported), WPA2, DHCP required, no captive portals. Weak signal at the entrance causes dropouts and data gaps; prefer a wired option where possible.

Info: Power draw is 3W to 6W in every setup. A standard outlet or an 802.3af PoE port is sufficient.
