Height & coverage table

Mounting height directly affects how much of the entrance the device can cover. Installing outside the recommended range will result in missed counts or inaccurate data.

Recommended mounting height

2.0m – 5.5m (6.5ft – 18ft) from the floor to the device.

This is the calibrated range for Avia's detection algorithms. Heights outside this range are not supported. If your ceiling exceeds 5.5m, use a wall mount at a lower point, or a mounting pole to reduce the installed height.

If a single device does not fully cover the entrance width at your installation height, install an additional device to achieve complete coverage. See Adding a second device to the same location.

Measuring the height correctly

The measurement method differs slightly depending on mount type:

  • Ceiling mount: Measure from the floor to the bottom of the device

  • Wall mount: Measure from the floor to the centre of the device

Use a measuring tape β€” do not estimate. Enter the value in metres in the Avia app during setup.

Placement rules

  • Device must face straight downward toward the floor (ceiling mount) or angled downward toward the entrance path (wall mount)

  • Centre the device over the walkable area of the entrance

  • Do not install at an angle sideways

Locations to avoid

  • Directly under bright or spotlights aimed at the floor β€” can interfere with detection

  • Facing reflective surfaces (mirrors, glass panels)

  • Near shelves, door frames, or metal obstructions that enter the field of view

Need help?

When contacting support, include:

  • Store name

  • Device serial number, if available

  • Planned installation height

  • Entrance width, if available

  • Photos of the entrance area
