Quick start: install and connect your Avia
Everything you need to get Avia working, on one page. Short steps, with links to the full guides.
This page has everything you need to get your Avia device counting visitors. Follow the steps in order. Each step is short. If you want more detail, click the 👉 link under that step.
What you need
From the box: the Avia device, the mounting bracket, screws and anchors, and the DC power adapter.
Not in the box: an Ethernet cable. You need one if you use PoE or Ethernet.
Tools: a pencil, a measuring tape, a drill, a screwdriver, and a ladder.
Access: you can log in to your Shopify Admin.

Step 1: Write down the serial number
Find the serial number on the device and take a photo of it. You will need it later, and it is hard to read once the device is on the ceiling.
Step 2: Pick the right spot
Put the device above the entrance, as close to the middle of the door as possible. Stay within 30 cm of the center.
Mount it between 2.5 m and 5.5 m from the floor.
Make sure nothing blocks its view of the floor, like signs, lights, or decorations.
Ceiling mount is best. Use a wall mount only if the ceiling doesn't work.

Step 3: Mount the device
Hold the bracket in place and mark the screw holes with a pencil.
Drill the holes. If it's drywall, put the anchors in first.
Screw the bracket in tight. It should not move when you push it.
Slide the device onto the bracket until it clicks.
Point the lens straight down for a ceiling mount, or toward the entrance for a wall mount.

Step 4: Measure the height
Ceiling mount: measure from the floor to the bottom of the device.
Wall mount: measure from the floor to the middle of the device.
Important: Use a measuring tape. Don't guess. If the height is wrong by even 20–30 cm, your visitor counts will be wrong.
Write the height down. You will need it in Step 8.

Step 5: Connect power and internet
Pick one of these three options:
Option A: PoE (recommended)
PoE means one cable gives the device both power and internet. Plug an Ethernet cable from the device into a PoE switch or a PoE injector. You don't need the power adapter or the mobile app.
Note: A normal network switch doesn't always give power. Make sure yours says PoE.
Option B: Ethernet + power adapter
Plug the power adapter into the device and a wall outlet. Then plug an Ethernet cable from the device into your router or switch. Use a Cat5e or Cat6 cable. You don't need the mobile app.

Option C: Wi-Fi + power adapter
Use this only if you can't run a cable to the entrance. Plug the power adapter into the device and a wall outlet. Then set up Wi-Fi with the Avia mobile app:
On your phone, connect to the Wi-Fi network that starts with HF (for example, HF048213). The password is hf123456.
Open the Avia app and tap Scan for Device.
Tap your device. It shows up by its serial number.
Pick your store's Wi-Fi, type its password, and tap Next.
Switch your phone back to your store's Wi-Fi.
Wait until the P and S lights stop blinking, then tap Continue.
Important: Avia only works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It won't work on 5 GHz. If you're not sure, ask whoever set up your internet.

Step 6: Check the lights
The device has three small lights:
P means it has power.
S means it's connected to the internet.
L means it's sending data. This light is used for cable setups only.
All good: P and S stay on without blinking. With PoE or Ethernet, a blinking L is normal. With Wi-Fi, L stays off.
No lights at all? Check the power. Still blinking after a few minutes? Check the cable or the Wi-Fi.

Step 7: Install the Avia app on Shopify
Go to the Avia app on the Shopify App Store and click Install.
Open Avia from your Shopify Admin. Your dashboard, billing, and settings are all there.
Step 8: Add your device in Store Management
This step tells Avia which store the device belongs to.
In the Avia app, go to Store Management. Your Shopify stores are already listed.
Next to your store, click Add device and fill in:
Device type: leave it on Entrance.
Device name: give it a simple name, like "Main Entrance" or "Front Door".
Serial number: use the one from Step 1.
Mounting height: use the one from Step 4.
Add your store's opening hours and pick the right time zone.
Click Save in the bar at the top of Shopify Admin.
That's it. Avia sets itself up automatically after you save.
Important: Double-check the serial number. If it's wrong, your visitors will show up under the wrong store, or not at all.
Step 9: Check that it's working
Open the Avia dashboard, pick your store, and select today's date. Visitors will start showing up as people walk in.
