Step-by-step installation walkthrough

This guide covers the full physical installation of the Avia device. Complete this before opening the app for configuration.

Before you start

  • Read Before you begin checklist and confirm all items are ready

  • Have your drill, screwdriver, measuring tape, and ladder ready

  • The Avia app should already be downloaded and you should be logged in

Step 1: Choose your mounting position

Position yourself above the entrance and identify the best spot. The device should be:

  • Directly above or within 30cm of the centre of the doorway

  • At a height between 2m and 5.5m

  • With a clear sightline to the entrance floor β€” no signage or fixtures in the way

Mark the position on the ceiling or wall with a pencil.

Step 2: Mount the bracket

  1. Hold the bracket against the marked position

  2. Use a pencil to mark the screw holes

  3. Drill pilot holes (use the appropriate bit for your surface β€” drywall, concrete, or wood)

  4. If using drywall and there's no stud, insert the wall anchors first

  5. Screw the bracket firmly into place β€” it should not flex or move when pressed

Step 3: Attach the device

  1. Slide the Avia device onto the bracket until it clicks into place

  2. Ensure the fisheye lens is facing directly down (ceiling mount) or angled toward the entrance (wall mount)

  3. The cable port should be accessible β€” route the power cable along the ceiling or wall toward the nearest outlet

Step 4: Connect power and network

Choose your setup:

  • DC adapter + Wi-Fi: Plug the DC adapter into the device's power port and into an outlet. Also plug in an Ethernet cable for now β€” the app uses Ethernet to find the device initially, then guides you to unplug it once Wi-Fi is configured. Do not unplug Ethernet until the app tells you.

  • DC adapter + Ethernet (permanent): Plug the DC adapter for power, and run a permanent Ethernet cable to your network switch.

  • PoE: Run a single PoE-capable Ethernet cable from the device to a PoE-capable switch. No DC adapter needed β€” PoE provides both power and data.

Power draw: 3W minimum, 6W maximum. A standard outlet or PoE switch with 802.3af support is sufficient.

Step 5: Confirm the device is on

The LED indicator on the device should light up within 30 seconds of connecting power. See LED status guide for what each color means.

Once the LED is active, proceed to Scanning for your device in the app to complete configuration.
